Extract

from Inspector of Schools' letter No.

62 of 4th October, 1899.

"The third application is for a grant to defray

Cost

the cost of enlarging St. Joseph's College. Another storey

has been built, and rooms on the first floor which have

hitherto been used as dormitories and dwelling rooms will

now be used as class-rooms. The estimated cost is rough--

ly $10,000, but what is the exact of the portion to be

used as class-rooms and teachers quarters, has not yet

been calculated. St.Joseph's College, which is practically

a day-school for Portuguese, though there are Chinere

day-scholars as well, and a few boarders, has already

received one building grant of $6,000.”
